DIY Dog Paw Print Pavers

DIY Dog Paw Print Pavers

I am working on adding a diamond paver base into my backyard for my new shed… But my dogs kept walking through the sand and messing it up. Instead of getting upset, I decided to go ahead and add them permanently into the design! I grabbed molds and made my own special dog paw print pavers.

Detailed Steps

Mix Concrete

I went to the store and bought concrete… but quickly realized it wasn’t the right kind. You will want to grab smooth concrete for the best results; it’s used more for topcoats. I grabbed my bucket and added in the concrete mix. Add in water and mix until you get a pancake batter consistency. You want the consistency to be thick enough to hold its shape but wet enough to pour smoothly into the mold.

Add Mix into Molds

Pour the mix into your molds. You want to try and get all the bubbles out of the concrete after it is poured into the molds. I shook my molds around a bit until the top looked nice and smooth!

Let Concrete Solidify

In order to show the paw prints, you want the concrete to set but not all the way. Just enough that when you push on it, it holds it’s shape! I actually made extra molds in case I messed this up. I checked the concrete every 15 minutes. I waited over an hour before I grabbed my dogs and got to work!

Add in Paw Prints

I wanted both Boomer and Nala to have their own pavers. I pushed gently into the concrete with their paws and gently pulled them out. Make sure to immediately spray off their paws so nothing is left behind! This can be bad for their paws so you want to make sure they are cleaned off.

First up Boomer!

Then it was Nala’s turn! We were able to do both paws together.

I let my molds sit overnight and by the next evening they were done! I gently flipped them over and they popped right out.

Then it was time to add them into my Diamond Paver Base for my shed!

Hi, I’m Kelsi!

I live in Illinois with my husband Chris and our two dogs, Boomer & Nala. When we moved into our home, I began turning it into our dream home one DIY project at a time. I started with a handful of everyday tools and the desire to complete projects by myself.

Room after room I have taken an average space and made it unique and chic while sharing my journey along the way. I love a good challenge and finding ways to complete new home projects in ways that are achievable for you no matter what your skill or experience level is.
