Concrete Countertops (Part 2)

In this blog post, I am going to show you how I removed my edge forms and final steps to finishing these beautiful white concrete countertops! We’ve poured everything and let it all fully set before moving onto these steps.

If you missed it, part 1 of Concrete Countertops can be found here! I provided a full list of supplies and the steps to get your forms set and counter poured and leveled!

Steps Summary

  1. Sand Edge Forms
  2. Take off Edge Forms
  3. Sand Coutertops
  4. Seal Countertops

Detailed Steps:

Sand Edge Forms

To prevent any cracking or chipping, you will need to go along your edge forms and sand off any excess concrete sitting on top of your forms. This will help give you a clean break away between the forms and concrete.

Take off Edge Forms

I just used a metal putty knife to score along the edges and separate the forms. The forms are made of plastic and made to break off, so you will start to notice it bend. Once you get it pried off enough, the front will just snap off.

Sand Countertops

I took my orbital sander and sanded along the tops of my countertops on any spots I felt needed. I started with a 120 grit and worked up to a 220 grit.

Seal Countertops

I used this epoxy sealer on these countertops. I let it dry between each coat and lightly sanded for an even smoother finish!

I love how these concrete countertops turned out! They look so modern in this space but also add an organic feeling. This was a doable DIY, but also one that I’d make sure to do with a buddy!

Hi, I’m Kelsi!

I live in Illinois with my husband Chris and our two dogs, Boomer & Nala. When we moved into our home, I began turning it into our dream home one DIY project at a time. I started with a handful of everyday tools and the desire to complete projects by myself.

Room after room I have taken an average space and made it unique and chic while sharing my journey along the way. I love a good challenge and finding ways to complete new home projects in ways that are achievable for you no matter what your skill or experience level is.

Meet Kelsi!
