Repainting My Home Office Built-ins
Over 2 years ago I built my own built-ins using premade cabinets from the hardware store. I added in two big bookcases as well, but my favorite feature was the hidden nook behind my artwork with a book lever no one knows is there! These have been one of my favorite project’s I’ve ever done.
After the home office was done, I knew I didn’t love the original color I picked. It was a beautiful color; however, it was too blue for what I wanted in my home. Instead of repainting it immediately, I lived with it for over 2 years… but that ends today!
I headed out to Menards and grabbed a can of Dutch Boy® Platinum® Plus Cabinet, Door & Trim Water-Based Alkyd Enamel Paint in the color Baked Spinach (327-7DB) and got to work repainting my built-ins. It’s time to make this office what I originally intended!
Supplies
- Dutch Boy® Platinum® Plus Cabinet, Door & Trim Water-Based Alkyd Enamel Paint
- (Color: Baked Spinach/327-7DB)
- Paint Brush
- Foam Roller Brush
Office Built-Ins After Initial Build:
Here are my built-ins after I finished the initial build. I love the added storage to our home! If you want to see how I did the Hidden Nook with a Book Lever, check out my blog post here!

Re-painting My Built-Ins:
I grabbed a can of Dutch Boy® Platinum® Plus Cabinet, Door & Trim Paint in the color Baked Spinach (327-7DB). I sanded my cabinets all down lightly to remove the topcoat from the prior color. Then after cleaning off all the dust, I grabbed a paint brush and foam roller to get a smooth finish. I only ended up needing 2 coats for full coverage.

After Re-painting My Built-Ins:
These built-ins are everything I had originally hoped for now! The color Baked Spinach (327-7DB) by Dutch Boy is beyond perfect for my space! I decided to also swap out my artwork for something moodier to go with the new color. Don’t live with a paint color you hate, grab a can of paint and get to work!
